progress

I made an appointment with an RE for next week. I figure, this is my summer break and I have time to make appointments and actually go to one that starts before 3:30pm.

Did you "try out/interview" REs? Or, did you just go to one and say okay? Did you look up their sart scores? It is expensive, so I don't want to try too many, but I feel like I should meet with at least two to get their opinions.

What did/would you do?

  1. I looked up SART scores, and at the time they were all pretty much the same in my area. I was wimpy, and not a good shopper. I chose my RE because my health insurance at the time covered initial testing...and he was the only RE on the plan.

I'm glad I stuck around because he also offered a great deal on the IVF....but his SART stats this year were much less than the other clinics in the area...but then again, so was the volume.

It's ok. I've got at least 2 more tries I guess.

Check out the scores...but remember, they only mean so much. Go with your gut, also. You'll be spending a LOT of time in this office, make sure you like your doc and the people there.

I'd check out at least two if I had it to do over again...but as it is I only ever went to my one doc.

  2. SART scores can make you more comfortable with an RE. But you also have to be comfortable with the doctor. If you do not like the way that the office or the doc treat you, I would say switch. You will be calling them A LOT, so you have to like them.

That being said, I did not really shop around using SART scores. I looked online at the various local clinics' websites and went with one I liked. I loved my RE and his office.

  3. Lucky for me, my RE is known as one of the best in the Philly region. (He was named one of Philly's Top Docs for the past few years.) My RE has also helped to develop new ART therapies. I had a lot of faith in my RE and his team. I really think they could've done wonders for me had I pursued TTC. It also helped that I felt really at home at the practice too :) Everyone there was absolutely wonderful!

  4. I also checked out SART scores- and initally chose one near our house that had good scores...but as we are going to have to travel 4.5 hours for DH's surgery we met with the RE at that Hospital too and really liked the program.

I just had a better "feel" about the second one. It is so far, but I think it will be worth it. The RE actually has done many cases like ours..the first RE did a lot of head scratching. ugh.

    Good luck! I am excited you have your appointment. {{HUGS}}

  6. I was recently diagnosed NOA as well, fortunately we live near one of the best fertility programs on the east coast so we didn't have to go through a lot before picking our specialists but we DID ask lots and lots of questions.

Have you guys done a TESE yet? Is it something you are considering?

I have been blogging about our experiences as well and finding it really helpful. Always good to know that you "aren't alone".

  7. I chose my RE b/c of insurance options. No real choice in my area.

  8. I did a lot of research and had a few different possibilities, but in the end only went to one. The reason I went with the doctor I chose had to do with two things 1).He was far more experienced with MF-researched, wrote and spoke all over the world about MF and Azoo and 2). When we met the Urologist he worked with we were hooked.

Good luck-I'm so glad you are taking this step!
