laid

off. It's official.  I got my pink slip today.  I teach out the end of the year, and have no job for the next school year.  My particular school laid off 25% of their teachers-- the district about 10%.  It is really stinky. If you live in CA, you can help by telling your state assembly representatives to fund education.  How to they expect us to educate people to be competitive in a global economic market if they are forcing districts to increase class sizes, and making our state and public universities financially inaccessible.   Call 1-888-268-4334, enter your zip code (in ca) and you will be connected to your local people.  I imagine that most of your children ( when you have them) will go to public school, so this isn't just for me! Facts: More than $17 bil. has been cut from CA public schools and colleges in the last two years, and the budget calls for another $2.5 bil. for this coming school year. K-12 schools have suffered 60% of the state budg...

decisions

I hate making decisions.  Well, I guess that is not entirely true.  When I feel strongly, I have no problem making decisions.  When I don't have a strong opinion or am unsure, I have a really hard time.  I have a lot of things coming up that I need to decide.  RE gave me the choice of having a Sonohysterogram or a Hysterosalpingogram to check my uterus and/or tubes. At first, I was thinking I'd go shg, because it doesn't involve radiation and it just seems better to put a saline solution in than dye, but the hsg will give us more information and include my tubes. If I'm going to do one of these, I'd rather be sure my tubes are clear in case we ever get to dIUI.  I don't know.  Any thoughts? My other big decision has to do with work.  I am 95% certain that I will be laid off again this year.  I am really thinking of giving up teaching all together to move to something different.  Unfortunately, this is such a crappy time to be out of a j...

Halloween '09

Image
At school (work) the kids can dress up for Halloween, as long as they dress as a character from a book or as someone in a helping profession. I followed suit, and dressed as the character from one of my favorite picture books, The Princess Knight . It was a very last minute costume, but it seemed to work fine! Go head over to Mel's and see what the rest of the class is sharing!

It's been a while

I've been withdrawn. Not just from here, but from real life too. Fac.ebook has been deactivated, aim no longer automatically starting, RL blog closed, etc. I know that it might be bad or not good for me to do this, but I just feel so overwhelmed and exhausted. It seemed like the easiest things to drop. I went back to work since my last post. I am not teaching a grade I want to be in this year. I am not happy about it and I don't like it. I'm doing fine, and being a good teacher, but I don't like it. Somewhere around 175 more days of school. No one announced a pregnancy, so the only pregnant lady right now is M , who I am happy and excited for. I was supposed to be social this weekend, but we took the weekend off and called in sick. I am a little sick, so it is not too much of a stretch. It would have been an exhausting two days that would have made me feel sicker when it was all over. Now I'll be rested. It looks like we'll be moving forward with IVF...

I'm baaack!

It was a great trip to Hawaii. Amazing. Just what I needed. We did a ton of great things, which I am debating posting all about, but I did get a ton of great pictures. Maybe next week for show and tell. This was truly a vacation-- I really was distracted from my problems. It was amazing. I even thought of that at one point. I hadn't really cried since we got there (a little teary-eyed once or twice) and it was a few days in. That is the longest I had gone in over 4 months. I was visiting places I had only been with my family, as a child, and recounting memories of swimming in that waterfall with my parents and brother. And going to this store, and other adventures with my brother the last time I really spend time on Maui. I think the fondness and tenderness of my memories, and their ability to come flooding back, made me feel glad. I have a lot of memories tied to that island. I visited there twice with my mom, dad, and brother when I was in the 9-11 year old range. ...

post 100 and a decision

This is my 100th post! I feel so new in the blog world, but also strange that I am not posting about infertility crap much anymore, because there is nothing going on. But, here's to 100 posts! And, there are even a few readers out there! Thank you, to all who read and support me. This world is amazing. I haven't yet made a decision about how to proceed with the infertility, but I did make a work decision. I am not leaving schools. I am going to stay at the same school I was at last year and be at the lower grade. It will be the easiest start to the school year I've had in a few years. I like having the decision made. Thanks for your help. My aunt had a mastectomy this week, and is doing ok. I think the best thing to come of this is that my mom is busy taking care of her sister. She has something to focus on other than my brother's death. I need to get pregnant to give her a grandchild or two to focus on. She needs things to live for, as do I. Oh, it's...

yes!

I got my pink slip rescinded!! I will continue to be employed and have health insurance! So flipping excited and happy. This is the best I've felt in two months. How nice to have some happy tears for once.

It's official

I've been laid off. I got my notice today. I finish out the school year and that's it. I know that I'm lucky that I have a few months to work on another employment plan, but I am still really sad. As much as I don't like to work, I love my job. I love my coworkers. I am happy to go to work everyday, with the only exception of getting up so early and the fact that I hate to get up to an alarm. I know that I can be rehired back, and that there is a chance that I will have no time of really being unemployed, but it is such an unknown. It may happen, or it may not. I don't know how far I am to being rehired at this point. What a great night. I hope you're doing better than I am.

unclaimed money!

So, a coworker was talking about finding a state website that shows you if you have any unclaimed property. My coworker found that she and her husband have almost $1,300 from the sale of their house a few houses ago! This, of course, prompted me to look up myself and B, and I found that B's old job owes him $914!!! I know it is not a ton, but that is a nice addition to savings! It's like a bonus month saving's contribution. I feel like it s a free grand towards our IVF fund. Also, job wise, I should find out next week if I'll get a pink slip, and if so how far down the list I am from being rehired. I am number 23, so if they lay off 25 people, I'll be the third to get rehired if positions open back up. At first, it looked liked they were going to lay off 45ish, and now it should be about half of that. So, that puts me right on the edge. If the district decides to furlough a few days, it will be less than half. So, here's hoping for 2-3 furlough days and...
